its been a while!!

•2009/05/19 • Leave a Comment

sorry its been so long since my last post, i just have not been motivated to post whats going on lately. In the video 1 i am :

1) Sandbag power clean and press 5×3

2a) Single arm kettlebell chest press 4×6-7

2b) Barbell bent over row 4×6-7

3) Kettlebell squat 3x 10

In video 2 i am trying a new way to do a chest press, well a new way to me, i have not seen it on any youtube video that i know of! I thought of it to try and make my kettlebell single arm chest press a little more challenging without having to buy more weight. Needless to say it was a success, it made the chest press much more challenging, so try it out and tell me what you think !!!

levering with a 10 lb Sledgehammer !

•2009/04/26 • Leave a Comment

I am levering a 10 lb sledgehammer, this is a great exercise to strengthen the forearms, and wrist ! So throw them into your regular program 1 – 2 times per week and watch how strong you get in the forearms, as well as the other lifts you do. Strength begins with the forearms, if they are weak, the rest of your body will be weak!!!

My first time trying Bb Thrusters !!

•2009/04/04 • 3 Comments

Well this video is kinda old, i have been saving it just in case something happened to prevent me from making new videos, and it was a success !!  I have Bronchitis, and have been unable to train for about a week now, it friggin sucks !! But i am feeling a heck of alot better, and should get back into the grind here soon enough!! so enjoy the video, and maybe if you are able, put this movement into your workout one day!! I am sure you will like it too, it will bust your butt.

If you do not have a barbell, then you can always use a pair of dumbells, a sandbag, book bag, 2 paint cans, 2- 1 gallon water jugs, rocks at the park, your body weight, a fallen tree limb. So do not be 1 dimensional, try different training apparatuses, they will keep your workouts new and fresh!!

A new Approach to jiu jitsu Training !!

•2009/03/21 • 2 Comments

I just started back up in jiu jitsu, and i am loving it yet again, it is one heck of a workout, and i am learning so much, i of course am getting taped out quite often though .

I wanted to try something new in my training that emulated my bjj, so i threw a punching bag in between my legs,  and did a floor press. I liked it so much that on the second set, i did the floor press, and then racked the bar and did some reverse crunches with the bag , i did them side to side, and back and forth as well!!

I am doing this specific training because when i get an opponent in my guard, and they start their offensive attack, i want to be able to throw them off by pushing and pulling them side to side, and back and forth. This will help to thwart their attack!!! So if your a combat athlete try throwing this in with your training regimen, and see where it takes your game.

So i hope you like the video, and i will let you all know how it translates to my bjj.

2nd Tier Exercises !!

•2009/03/19 • 3 Comments

Alright this is installation number 2 of the tiers of exercises, tier 2 is isolation exercises, such as bicep curls, calve raises, tricep push downs,  and anything else that isolates certain muscle groups. You as a reader of this blog should stay away from those exercises at the beginning  of your workout, get in 1-2 of the 1st tier exercises, and then hit 1-2 of the second tier exercises. That is to get you strong, do multi joint exercises first ( 1st tier), and then hit the isolation stuff. I have nothing against the second tier exercises, but i like to follow the strongmen of old, like Saxon, Sandow, Louis Cyr, and all those men that were really strong.

They got strong by doing the basics, the multi- joint exercises in the first tier. They got exceptionally strong by using those basic multi joint exercises.  The Strongmen of old did anywhere from 2-4 exercises per workout, and they Smashed it, they worked hard, ate right, and slept the proper amount of time.

In the video we have got the athletes in their second actual day of programmed training they are working hard, and soon they should all be as strong as an ox, so stay tuned for more videos of these guys doing what they do !!

That is all i got for now, i just got out of jiu jitsu, and i am pretty beat up right now, so i will talk, or write to yall later!!!

1st tier exercises !

•2009/03/17 • 2 Comments

Alright i have been getting some emails from people who are asking me my favorite exercises, so i decided to put them into tires!  1st tier is the best exercises, 2nd tier is the next best, and 3rd tier is the i prolly wont do exercises unless i just started walking again, or i am 90 yrs old. I will do the first tier in this post.

The 1st tier of exercises are great for just about anyone who is interested in looking strong, and actually being strong! If you want to build brute strength then you need to throw these exercises in your weekly routine.

1) BB SQUAT2)FLOOR PRESS3)POWERCLEAN4)POWERCLEAN AND PRESS5)STANDING MILITARY PRESS6)SNATCH7) BENT OVER ROW8)TURKISH GET UP9) HANG CLEAN10) DEADLIFT11) PULL UPS12)PUSH UPS13)HANDSTAND PUSH UPS14)BODY SQUATS15) KB SWING16)THRUSTER17)FARMERSWALK18)STONE LOADING19)SLEDS AND PROWLER

Those without a doubt are the best, i know i threw in some body-weight stuff too, but people need to be able to control there own body’s, too many people that are strong cannot do a single pull up, i mean men who squat 600 pounds cannot do a single pull up, sad sad sad!!!!

In the video, this is the guys 2nd day, so we went light to see where they were, next video will be crazier i promise, it is leg day, we are doing those beautiful heavy BB SQUATS. If you like what you see, please leave some comments, start discussions!!

Tire flip for 1/2 mile !!!

•2009/03/10 • 1 Comment

This was the end of the workout with the Truck tire, it was nuts we flipped the tire for a half mile across Hoover Dam. This was extremely hard, we all got well over 100 flips per person. After this we did a 1 1/2 mile light jog, which in turn actually made me feel alot better than when i started. The Truck tire flip took approximately 20 minutes to do, and it was brutal.

You can visit a local tire yard and get one of those tires for free, as well as some larger and heavier tires if you are interested. I do have something to tell everyone, my last video of the Truck tire Farmers walk for 1 /3 a mile was featured on a hardcore training website. That is a tremendous amount of respect !! If you want to see it posted on the website the site is : http://www.straighttothebar.com/2009/03/tire_farmers_walk.html    I was flabbergasted, but not shocked, because that is how we do it at the Specialized Strength Gym, hardcore no rules style of training. Are you ready for some gut wrenching training that will make you a better athlete, if so then leave me a comment on the post and i will get back at you !!

 until next time !!!!!!

Truck tire Farmers walk for 1/3 mile

•2009/03/08 • 4 Comments

Alright everyone, yesterday was some crazy training at Hoover dam, i actually just got a text from one of the patrons who participated in the madness that was yesterday. His text read ” I must have been wasted drunk, cuz i don’t remember gettin in any fights yesterday, how many did i lose, feels like it was 3 or 4 “. Needless to say i feel exactly the same, sometimes it is beneficial to take your body to the extreme, and see how exactly you respond to it. I do not recommend this for all people, this can only be done by individuals who have been training for a long time, and know there body well. I also don’t recommend this to be done on a regular basis as well.

These 2 videos are just 1 small part of what we did at Hoover dam  yesterday, just wait for the next post, it will be even more crazier !!

Stay strong

 Jason

So if your an athlete, or you know one, and they are sick and tired of gassing out in a wrestling match, or a football athlete who is tired of getting hurt every season, or tired of not being strong enough, or fast enough, then send them my way, We hear at The Specialized Strength Coach are committed to your success, we bread champions hear, we turn cubs into  Lions , boys to Men !

P.S. We work pricing out too, our pricing right now is 7 dollars per session, this is only because we are starting out, but once we get big, the price in inevitably have to rise, so lock you price in now, and it is for life !!!!!
